Does anyone have any recommendations for a family car? We're looking at Nissan Qashqais at the moment, but happy to hear of good alternatives. Also, has anyone bought a car from Car Giant before? Do you recommend them? Is there any scope to negotiate, or are their prices already as low as they can go?

Hi, we are very very happy with a Kia Sportgage, with twins and all the crap that comes with twins there is still space for some of our stuff if we are going away anyway. Extra long warranty on parts useful on the pocket. MAIN BIT OF ADVICE IS IF YOU ARE A LONDONER BE WARY OF BUYING A DIESEL VEHICLE AS GOVERNMENT ARE LIKELY TO MAKE YOU SCRAP YOUR CAR IN A FEW YEARS TIME !!

eek, I didn't know that Matt - great tip as I have been looking at Diesel options. Thank you. Will check out the Kia too.

If you want a cheap car with great reviews, that you don't mind the kids trashing or dinks in doors at car parks, the Dacia Duster is great. Keep it for a few years the dump it when the kids are big enough the respect a better car. As for car giant - they don't do deals. Don't take kids. You'll be there all day if you're buying!!

We were looking at Qashquais but ended up plumping for a used Lexus RX450. More expensive but the RX350 and 400 are older and make a cheaper alternative. We love it. Having occupied the back seat with our kid for the past couple of years I can confirm it's incredibly roomy back there and it drives really well too. Boot space is great and I love fancy bits like the keyless locking. Perhaps that's standard on newer cars but I was driving my Nan's hand me down Dawoo Matiz before this so the upgrade was a significant one.

We bought a Mazda Bongo so that we could give up to 8 people a ride. The roof pops up to sleep two up, two down and the kids love playing in it. Before the Bongo we had an Audi All Road but there was something about the motion that made the kids sick. In the Bongo they sit up high and can see out of the window. And we stopped getting speeding tickets! Bongos aren't really cool but they are narrow and easy to park and everyone with a Bongo will wave at you. Very happy vehicles. Bongofury.co.uk

We bought our car from Car Giant. I don't have much to compare to as it's the first car I've ever bought but I think it was ok. There was no negotiation on price as low already. I couldn't believe it when we got there, it is massive and has every car imaginable. We got a skids superb to fit two kids and a big dog and have been happy so far... bags of space.
