What's the best technique to get a baby to sleep through the night?

It depends on how old the baby is. There is a lot of pressure on parents to get their babies sleeping through the night at a very young age. when they're really young they need to feed regularly because their stomachs can only hold so much milk at one time. I fed my son around the clock until he got to seven months and had weaned well. He ate plenty in the day and drank plenty of milk so I knew he didn't need food in the night. We did some gentle sleep training (getting a good bedtime routine and sleep associations eg: dinner, playtime, bath, massage, milk, story, sleepytime song, bed), and then followed this up with some controlled crying, as explained to us by a sleep consultant. This all led to him sleeping through the night by eight months, but this is just our story and controlled crying is not for everyone.

White noise works surprisingly well. There is 8 hour video of it here: https://tantrum.xyz/posts/parent_hacks_8_hours_of_white_noise_318
