CRACKING UP COMEDY AFTERNOON - A REVIEW
Here's how the afternoon went...
There’s an old showbiz adage that goes, ‘Never follow an act in gold Lycra’. Take this advice and keep it close to your heart. Because after you’ve howled and hollered through the Scummy Mummies’ hilarious, pelvic floor-busting set at TantrumXYZ’s inaugural Cracking Up stand-up comedy afternoon, there really is nowhere else to go from there but home.
And this was after a whole hour of top-notch comedy, booked with the help of ace comedy website London is Funny. Holly Walsh (yes, her off the telly), Luke Toulson and Tiernan Douieb had sleep-deprived but no-less-spritely-for-it parents clutching their sides and crying with laughter, while their babies either slept soundly or toddled around Pergola on the Roof. Yes, so there may have been a few tantrums too, but that's all par for the course.
It’s testament to the comics that the audience was largely sober (if you can consume Fentimans and Vita Coco drinks you hardly need to reach for the beers too), but still in high spirits. And, though they were missing out on Edinburgh Fringe this year, they left feeling on pretty good form, with a goodie bag stuffed with treats from Coconut Collaborative, Mipow, Pip & Nut, Weleda, Aveda and Propercorn.
