A fail-safe playdough recipe by Stacey Turner

For a fail-safe, rainy-day activity for kids, you can't beat playdough, especially when it's the colourful, glittery kind...

You will need:

  • 2 cups plain flour (you can even use gluten free if that's what you have in the cupboard)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • Up to 1-1.5 cups boiling water (adding in small amounts) food colouring
  • Food colouring
  • Glitter
  • Scented essence (optional)

To create:

Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mixing bowl.

It is best to add the food colouring to the boiling water and stir continuously until it becomes sticky and combined.

Once cool, knead the dough on some baking paper (to prevent staining and easy cleaning) on the kitchen bench with a tiny bit more flour (if required) until the consistency is smooth and soft.

If you'd like more than one colour playdough, roll out into a big sausage-shape, then cut into as many equal-sized blobs as you have colours. Add in a few drops of colour to each blob.

Add in the glitter, and the scented essense if required. It can make it more of a sensory experience.
